SCIENCE HAS NO BORDERS: STAND WITH AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES
We, professors and researchers from Brazilian Universities and Research Institutes, many of whom are alumni of North American Universities, express our deep concern with the policy of the current US Federal Administration in relation to Higher Education Institutions.
American Universities have been responsible for much of the scientific, technological, and educational progress present in our globalized world. These achievements are anchored in intellectual freedom, open inquiry, and collaboration, always open to criticism and to the debate of ideas. The tradition of welcoming international students and researchers has been instrumental in fostering innovation and strengthening the global academic community.
The recent actions that have been announced and implemented by the current Administration in the United States of America are contrary to the legitimate and appropriate activities of any university system. This trajectory is incompatible with the stage of civilization reached after decades of extraordinary contributions by the university community.
Therefore, we would like to express our surprise and indignation regarding the recent threats and ongoing measures by the current US Federal Administration that affect the good performance of universities. We hope that the authorities responsible for supporting the Higher Education System review the current policy, maintaining and expanding the working conditions of Universities in the US, promoting and expanding international cooperation.
